8 Willis St was originally built in the 1980s as an eight-story tower in Wellington, NZ. After recent changes to building codes, it was determined that the building must undergo a retrofit to bring the building new seismic requirements. During the retrofit, the engineers from Beca decided to add five more stories to the building all while making it one of the most resilient workspaces in the city.
Cutting edge structural modeling determined that just 12 Taylor Dampers were needed to bring the building up to market-leading seismic resiliency, thereby not only reducing costs but also shortening an already minimally invasive retrofit.
