Located in Inglewood, California, SoFi Stadium is a 3.1 million square foot state-of-the-art stadium that was opened in 2020. This stadium sits near the Newport-Inglewood Fault, requiring careful consideration for the seismic design. The structural system consists of buckling-restrained braced frames and 32 Lock Up Devices (LUDs). The LUDs were used at expansion joints which allowed the upper concourses to behave as a continuous structure. The LUDs allow the structure to expand and contract under normal thermal loads (low velocities), but will lock up during a seismic event (large velocities).
