Fluid Viscous Dampers (FVDs) were used in this project for a new bridge section in the Taiwan High Speed Rail system, completed in 2003. This concrete aerial viaduct project used 34, 4,000 kN FVDs with ±5” of stroke. These units were used across expansion joints to control movement during earthquakes and train braking.
